YEAH! Children’s Sunday School is GROWING!

After a long year of no Sunday School, due to the lack of children in the congregation, (at that time), we are proud to announce that not only did we bring the Sunday school BACK to EPC, but it is now GROWING, with attendance most Sundays at 9 or more children.  During worship, the children are excused after the “children’s time” for a story and activity lesson while the adults receive their lesson from the sermon.  The children then return to the sanctuary during the offertory.  A big THANK YOU to Joyce Nelson, who is coordinating this ministry, and to all of those who have been volunteering to teach our children about our Lord.

Weekday Bible Study

I Tramp For The Lord, by Corrie Ten Boom

5:00 - 6:30 p.m. 2nd & 4th Tuesdays

Baker’s Square, Highland Village

The BSG is starting a new short book, "I Tramp For The Lord," by Corrie Ten Boom.  Corrie was the daughter of a Dutch watchmaker who hid Jews from the Nazis during WWII.  Discovered, Corrie and her family spent the rest of the war in concentration camps, a story she tells in the book and movie, "The Hiding Place".  The book we are going to read is the story of her missionary travels after the war.  It is an exciting travelogue and proclamation of the Gospel.  A short, easy to read book, we should finish it in just a few sessions.

The Bible Study Group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, 5:00PM to 6:30PM at Bakers Square. New members are welcome, if you read the book or not; if you want to talk or not.  We would love to have you join us.  For more information, contact Chuck Neve at (651) 645-8543, or cnpaints@juno.com

HEALING AND WELLNESS SERIES

PART ONE:

HEALING AND THE GRIEF PROCESS

One of the most important aspects of Jesus is that he was a Healer.  And through the Holy Spirit, God’s healing action and presence continues today!  Being healed is radically different than how most of us in this culture think of “going to a doctor”.  Instead of treating symptoms, healing happens when the root cause of our pain and brokenness is cared for.  Being church, then, is a place where the broken and sick come to experience the healing presence of God and the promise of Resurrection.  At Edgcumbe we will be offering times of Adult Education addressing issues dealing with healing and wellness.  There are a few topics that have surfaced already, but if you have ideas that would be helpful to explore, please let Pastors Phil or Julie know or talk to anyone on the Discipleship Team.

The first topic we want to address is healing through the grieving process.   All people grieve when someone we love dies, but in any experience of loss or transition (loss of job, kids move out of the house, etc.) or when any change occurs, there is a grieving process.  Oddly enough, there is even a grieving process which happens when positive changes occur in our lives.  But often, we need help to unpack the event and give language to experiences, and everyone needs to receive support to walk through it all.  Please plan to attend the adult education times after church in June where we as a church will begin to learn more about how living lives of faith and grieving intersect. [The current proposed dates for these classes are June 1 and 8.  Check the bulletin and the June newsletter for more details.]
