Mission and Outreach

EPC has donated $250 from our Peacemaking funds to the Plaster House in Tanzania. Here is a story about Plaster House written by Ingrid & Ron Eggert:

Sarah Rejman is an Australian
occupational therapist at Selian Lutheran Hospital and Arusha Lutheran Medical Center. One of her jobs is to go to
remote villages and find children who have congenital abnormalities like cleft lip or club foot. These children are hidden away by their fearful or ashamed families, unaware the problems can be surgically corrected and that Selian, with help from several donors, performs such surgery for free. Before the idea of Plaster House was developed, the
children spent weeks in hospital post-operatively, because the risk of damage to, or infection in, healing tissue was too high in villages where shelter is mud huts, clean water is scarce and western standards of hygiene are impossible to achieve.

Sarah developed the Plaster House, (Plaster as in plaster cast), concept as a post-operative care and, when needed, rehabilitation center for children. Plaster House employs a couple of cooks. There is a house mother for every 6 or 8 children.
Physical and occupational therapists work with the children daily. There are many recreational activities and some children may also attend school. Presently Plaster House houses up to 30 or so children in a rented facility. The Arusha Diocese of the Tanzanian Lutheran Church has donated several acres of land and about 3/4s of the funds needed to build a dedicated facility has been raised. Building will begin in 2012. We are very excited that EPC chose to help with this project which has and will continue to impact the lives of hundreds of children.

EPC Outreach Donates to Plaster House

Since 1989, Joseph's Coat has been serving people in Saint Paul and the surrounding Twin Cities communities whose life challenges have left them in need of essential goods and services. Edgcumbe church has been donating to this cause almost as long. This free store provides clothing, household items, personal hygiene products, and children’s items.  Approximately 750 individuals are served each week through the dedicated efforts of our wonderful volunteers.

Items especially needed for men, women and children: socks and underwear (new or gently used), seasonal clothing, adult backpacks, sleeping bags, men’s tennis shoes, shoes and boots for men, women & children, soap, disposable razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo and foot powder.

Please leave your donation of clean, gently used items in the barrel located in the church entry.
