Annual Meeting & Potluck

2011 Annual Report Preparation

· 2012 pledge envelopes are available in the Narthex. Like last year, we are using the resources we already have and so the envelopes will have a previous year stamped on them. The date printed is not used by our counters and a majority of the pledges have opted not to receive envelopes. So, in being good stewards of our money, we will use up what we already have.

· 2011 contribution statements, for your tax purposes, will be distributed later this month. If you have any questions about your statement, don’t hesitate to contact Eleta in the church office.

· 2012 Per Capita invoices will be
distributed later this month as well.
This year’s per capita (per person)
apportionment is $31.63.
Please keep in mind that this is an amount that Edgcumbe pays in full, even if we do not receive the amount from the congregation. By paying your per capita apportionment, you are helping EPC to keep money in our general fund for use in the life and ministry of our church.

On the bulletin board in the narthex you will find Christmas cards, letters and photos from members and friends of the congregation. Take the time to read them the next time you are here at church. It is a great way to reconnect with the people of Edgcumbe, near and far, former and new.  They will remain on the bulletin board at least through the month of January.

following worship

Join us for the annual meeting of our church and potluck lunch. This meeting will include the reports from our ministry teams, Elders and Deacons, a financial report from the 2011 budget, and the presentation of the 2012 budget. All are encouraged to attend and bring a dish to share if you’d like.

Christmas Greetings!

Centering Prayer at Edgcumbe

The reason for the group is to allow some intentional prayer space during the weekdays.  The format of the group is to hold 20 minutes of silent, centering prayer, and then an hour of some type of creative response (writing, mandala making, etc.) and a brief sharing time.

All people are welcome to come and try out this prayer time.  The meetings will be at EPC at 1:30p on the first and third Thursday of the month, through May.  If you have any questions, please connect in with Pastor Julie.

Financial Notes

A group of local pastors, including Pastor Phil, applied for and received a grant for $10,000 from the Presbyterian school, Austin Theological Seminary.  The grant covers monthly retreats, books, and transportation costs over the next two years, plus a trip for the group to Austin, Texas, this coming October.  The other pastors are Kara Root of Lake Nokomis PC, Jamie Schultz of Bryn Mawr PC, and three local Lutheran pastors: Jodi Houge, Marc Ostley-Olson, and Travis Gerjets.

The study topic for these two years is called "Belonging to the Body," where the group will ask questions about what it means to belong to a church or to any community in this modern age of technological over-connection and spiritual alienation.  Each month Phil and the group will spend the fourth Wednesday and Thursday at the ARC
retreat center outside of Cambridge, MN.  ARC stands for "Action, Reflection,
Celebration" and is a wonderful facility for sabbath rest, deep reflection, and community building.  Plus they serve really good food!

The money from this grant will allow
Pastor Phil some extra resources and time for rejuvenation and continuing education.  We do have a pastors' continuing education allowance and two weeks of paid education leave already built in to Julie and Phil's contract, so hopefully this frees up some extra money for Pastor Julie as well.  Congratulations to Pastor Phil and his group.  Feel free to talk to him if you have further questions.

Pastor Phil Wins Study Grant

The annual report will be compiled over the next week or so. Ministry team chairs, organization leaders and staff will offer a retrospective of the church’s ministries and activities throughout this past year as well as project their goals for the coming year. Reports are due into the church office by 9 a.m. on January 9, 2011. They may be sent by e-mail to secretary@epchurch.org, or delivered on plain paper.
